Padmasana (Lotus pose)

Padmasana (Lotus Pose) is a deeply grounding and meditative Kundalini Yoga posture that brings the body into stillness and the mind into focus. The crossed position of the legs creates stability in the lower body while encouraging the spine to rise naturally upward. Physically, the pose opens the hips, strengthens the back, improves posture, and supports deep, calm breathing during meditation and pranayama practices.
Padmasana helps direct energy upward through the spine while keeping the body grounded and steady. The connection of the legs and pelvis activates the Root Chakra (Muladhara), creating stability and inner balance, while the upright spine supports the flow of energy toward the higher chakras and deeper states of awareness and meditation.
To practice:
sit on the floor and place each foot onto the opposite thigh, allowing the knees to relax toward the ground. Rest the hands on the knees or in a mudra, lengthen the spine, relax the shoulders, and breathe deeply with still awareness.
If full Lotus Pose is not accessible, practice in a simple cross-legged position while keeping the spine tall and the body relaxed.
