Sarvangasan (Shoulder Stand)

Sarvangasana, the Shoulder Stand, is a powerful Kundalini Yoga posture that strengthens the whole body while creating deep inner stillness and energetic balance. The pose strengthens the shoulders, neck, upper back, and core while improving circulation and supporting spinal alignment. Holding the legs extended upward also helps calm the nervous system and refresh tired legs and feet.

The inverted position changes the flow of energy in the body and draws awareness upward toward the higher chakras. Sarvangasana strongly stimulates the Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) through the chin lock created at the neck, supporting clear communication and inner purification. The upward flow of energy also activates the Third Eye Chakra (Ajna) and Crown Chakra (Sahasrara), encouraging mental clarity, intuition, and deeper spiritual awareness.

To practice:

Lie on the back and lift the legs and hips upward, supporting the lower back with the hands while the shoulders and upper arms stay grounded on the floor. Extend the legs toward the sky, keep the neck relaxed, and breathe slowly with steady awareness.

If the full posture feels too intense, practice with the hips supported on a cushion or keep the legs lifted vertically while lying on the floor near a wall.
